4 Free Apps That Reduce Eyestrain
Working from home or running an online business involves some heavy computer usage.
Long hours in front of the screen won’t damage your eyes. But your eyes can become strained.
You blink half as much when using a computer. This leads to dry eyes and irritation. But before you rush off to the optometrist, try one of these four apps to help ease eyestrain.
1. Protect Your Vision
Every 20 minutes, the Protect Your Vision app beeps when it’s time for your break.
It blacks out your screen for another 20 minutes, allowing you to rest your eyes.
It also gives you suggestions for eye exercises, which you can do during your break time.
But beware of places that play classical music. It has been shown to be subconsciously associated with affluence. So you could find yourself spending big!
2. Time Out
This app is similar to Protect Your Vision, except it works on a 50-minute work and 10-minute break schedule.
Time Out also inserts 10-second micro-breaks throughout your work time.
Your screen will fade out to let you know when it’s time to rest your eyes, and then fade back in when the break’s over.
3. Eye Pro
This app helps you reduce eyestrain but also focuses on keeping your eyes properly moisturised.
Eye Pro displays reminders, which encourage you to rest your eyes.
This involves turning away for a few moments, and blinking repetitively to restore natural eye moisture.
This app is perfect if you’re a night owl.
F.lux adjusts the glow and tint of your monitor based on the time of day.
So, if you like to work late at night or early in the morning, your eyes won’t be strained by the bright light.
