Maximise Your Productivity With These Home Office Hacks
As I’ve mentioned before, you spend a large portion of your life working. More than 10 years, in fact. So why not make the most of your workspace?
The most important thing you can do to your office is optimise it for productivity. So here are my top four ways you can improve your desk space.
1. Use a camera to identify problem spots
Before you start working, you need to identify any trouble spots that could be hindering your productivity. Although they may be obvious, take a few pictures from different angles and study them carefully.
This can help you see your workspace in a new way. Then you’ll be able to identify the most cluttered spots, and plan your attack.
2. Make the most of the space you have
Computer cables, Wi-Fi modems and printers can take up space. If they must remain on your desk, place them on a raised platform. This creates additional storage space underneath.
Prevent cable tangles by threading them through some plastic hooks or bulldog clips.
This is particularly important if you don’t have a lot of room at home or have to share a small office.
3. Create a hierarchy of draws
Office draws are the number one culprit when it comes to clutter. First, take some time to go through them. Then refill them in order of importance and ease of access.
Keep your most essential supplies in the top drawer (on the side of your dominant hand). Having things you really need on hand will save loads of time and increase productivity.
4. Create long-lasting habits
As with all big changes, the challenge is maintaining it. The easiest way to do this is to set aside five or 10 minutes to ‘revamp’ your desk. It doesn’t need to be perfect; just straighten things up.
Also, remember to take things home with you (like lunchboxes) at the end of the day.
